Well Listers, I have had the same questions for 25 years of research
but
possibly there are new resources available that I haven't found. You
tend to
get stale after looking so long for the same information. Any suggestions
will be gratefully received.
Michael G. McInerney, s/o George and Bridget from Co. Clare, arrived
US ????
and went to work for the railroad. He married Ellen Cooney @1852, possibly
in Hornellsville, NY as first child is born there in 1853. In the 1860
census he is in Hornellsville, NY, possibly running a boarding house,
along
with working on the railroad, with probably a brother Patrick living
in the
house and just down the street is Bridget McInerney, probably his mother.
He
settles with his family in Oil City, PA. by 1870. He is now going by
McNerney. His four sons grow up and go all directions. George moved
to New
York City, Dan to Greensburg, PA, Charley to Cleveland, OH and Frank
stayed
in Oil City. All but Frank dropped the second e and went by McNerny.
I have searched for immigration records, no luck. No luck with marriage
record either although all the first children are baptised in St. Anns
of
Hornellsville and I have those records. I can't connect Ellen Cooney
to any
family in the area. Bridget McInerney disappeared without a trace after
the
1860 census. No sign of a George of the right age to be the father.
And
Patrick has disappeared too.
Three branches of the family are accounted for. Except George. George
who
moved to New York married a widow, Carrie (Levy) Fox with several children
and they had a son Herbert McNerny b. 1894 and d. 1971 in Jacksonville,
Fla.
His death certificate states he was an Officer, US Army. He did not
attend
West Point. He was married to a Margaret Glidden but don't know if
any
children survive him. If any one has any unique research ideas I need
a shot
of enthusiasm here. Also, if anyone has access to the Jacksonville
Beach,
Fla newspaper for 1971 possibly there is some information on Herbert
there.
I know there were McNerneys in Idaho and I will be glad to do checks
in the
Idaho death index which covers the years @1911-1936. And can check
later
dates with a date of death. Also have access to all the Idaho newspapers
if
you have a date of death . Pat McNerny Roloff
